A blueberry tart is a classic fruit dessert with a delicate crust that holds a sweet and colorful filling. The outside is lightly golden and tender, while the center is soft, fruity, and refreshing. This recipe creates around 10 slices, making it a lovely choice for family gatherings, weekend baking, or a relaxing afternoon treat.
Let’s prepare this delicious blueberry tart together and discover how simple homemade baking can be.

About This Homemade Blueberry Tart

This blueberry tart combines two important parts: a homemade sweet crust and a rich blueberry filling.
The crust is made with butter, sugar, egg, and flour. After chilling, the dough becomes easier to shape and creates a tender texture after baking. The blueberry filling combines prepared blueberry filling with fresh blueberries, creating a balance between smooth sweetness and fresh fruit flavor.

Time & Storage

- Total time: 85 minutes (15 minutes prep / 30 minutes chill / 40 minutes bake)
- Storage: Refrigerate up to 4 days

Ingredients for the Sweet Crust

To prepare the homemade crust, we need:
- 1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter, softened at room temperature
- 1/4 cup (50 g) sugar
- 1 large egg, about 50 g, lightly beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups (190 g) all-purpose flour
These ingredients create a soft and slightly sweet crust that matches perfectly with the blueberry filling.

Ingredients for the Blueberry Filling

For the fruity center, we need:
- 2 cups (about 480 g) blueberry pie filling
- 2 cups (about 300 g) fresh blueberries
Divide the fresh blueberries into two portions:
- 1 cup (150 g) for mixing into the filling
- 1 cup (150 g) for decorating the top after baking
Using fresh blueberries on top gives the tart a bright color and a fresh fruit taste.

Step 1: Prepare the Tart Dough

1. Place 1/2 cup softened butter into a large mixing bowl.
2. Use a mixer or hand whisk to beat the butter until smooth.
3. Add 1/4 cup sugar and continue mixing for about 2 to 3 minutes until the mixture becomes lighter and fluffy.
4. Add the beaten egg slowly while mixing.
5. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1/8 teaspoon salt. Mix until everything is evenly combined.
6. Add 1 1/2 cups flour gradually. Stir until the dough comes together.
The dough may look slightly crumbly at first. This is normal. Use clean hands to gently press the mixture together until it forms a smooth dough ball.

Step 2: Chill the Dough

1. Place the dough on plastic wrap.
2. Shape it into a flat round disc.
3. Wrap it completely and place it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Step 3: Shape the Tart Crust

1. Prepare an 8 or 9-inch tart pan by lightly greasing the inside.
2. Remove the chilled dough from the refrigerator.
3. Roll the dough into a circle slightly larger than the tart pan, then gently place it inside.
Or, we can press the dough directly into the pan using our fingers. Make sure the dough covers the bottom and sides evenly.
4. Remove any extra dough around the edges.
5. Use a fork to make small holes across the bottom of the crust.
These small holes allow steam to escape and help the crust bake evenly.

Step 4: Bake the Tart Crust

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Place the shaped crust in the freezer for another 15 minutes while the oven heats.
3. Cover the crust with baking paper or foil.
4. Add baking weights on top to keep the crust flat.
5. Bake for 10 minutes.
6. Carefully remove the baking paper and weights.
Keep the oven temperature at 350°F (175°C) because we will bake the filled tart next.

Step 5: Prepare the Blueberry Filling

1. Place 2 cups blueberry filling into a mixing bowl.
2. Add 1 cup fresh blueberries.
3. Stir gently until the blueberries are evenly distributed.
Avoid mixing too strongly because we want to keep the blueberries whole and beautiful.

Step 6: Fill and Bake the Tart

1. Pour the blueberry mixture into the partially baked crust.
2. Spread the filling evenly with a spoon or spatula.
3. Place the tart into the oven.
4. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 40 minutes.
The tart is ready when:
- The filling begins to bubble slightly.
- The crust becomes golden.
- The center looks set.

Step 7: Add the Final Blueberry Topping

1. Remove the tart from the oven.
2. Add the remaining 1 cup fresh blueberries on top.
3. Place the tart on a cooling rack.
4. Allow it to cool completely before removing it from the tart pan.
Cooling is an important step because it helps the filling become firm and makes slicing easier.
