Prep #1: Check your battery early

A weak battery will really struggle in cold weather. Before winter hits, I always get my battery tested or replaced if needed. If your battery is over 3 years old, it's a good idea to check it now. Clean any corrosion from battery terminals too — it helps the electricity flow better!

Prep #2: Use the right oil

Thick oil can slow your engine down when it's freezing outside. Check your car manual for the right winter oil grade or ask your mechanic. I switched to a thinner oil during winter and noticed my car started more smoothly in the morning.
