Are you new to driving β or maybe just got your license and feeling a bit unsure? Don't worry, I've been there.
When I first started driving, I made so many little mistakes I didn't even realize were dangerous π
Today I'm sharing 5 real mistakes I made as a rookie driver, and I hope they save you from learning the hard way!
π¦ Mistake #1: Braking Too Hard or Too Late
In the beginning, I had no feel for how strong the brakes were. Sometimes I'd slam on them too suddenly, other times I waited too long and panicked.
Lesson learned: Start slowing down earlier than you think you need to. Gently press the brake and don't wait until the last second β especially in traffic or near red lights.
π Mistake #2: Not Checking Blind Spots
I used to only rely on mirrors, thinking that was enough. Until one day, I almost merged into a motorbike that was right in my blind spot π±
Always do a quick shoulder check before changing lanes. Mirrors can't see everything!
π Mistake #3: Turning Without Slowing Down Enough
When making turns, especially at junctions, I didn't slow down properly. I thought I could just steer smoothly like in games. Big mistake!
Now I always reduce speed before turning, especially in tight corners. It makes the turn safer and more controlled.
π± Mistake #4: Getting Distracted by Phone or Music
I once tried to change songs while turning⦠and nearly went into the wrong lane.
Now my phone stays on Do Not Disturb, and I only touch it after parking. Trust me, a playlist change can wait πΆ
π§ Mistake #5: Panicking Under Pressure
When someone honked at me for hesitating at a junction, I panicked and drove forward too quickly β almost hitting the curb.
The truth is: It's okay to take a second. Breathe. Don't rush just because others are impatient. Staying calm is more important than being fast.
π¬ My Advice to You
Driving is all about practice. Don't be too hard on yourself β mistakes will happen, but we can learn from them. The key is to drive with focus, stay calm, and keep learning.
Have you made any of these mistakes too, Lykkers? Or maybe you have your own rookie story to share? Drop it in the comments β let's help each other out π¬π
