When to Turn the AC On and Off
A common mistake many of us make is turning on the AC immediately after starting the car. This actually puts extra strain on the compressor! Here's a better approach:

2. Turn on the AC after airing out the car to reduce stress on the system.
3. Before reaching our destination, switch off the AC compressor a few minutes early but keep the fan running. This helps dry out moisture inside the system, preventing mold and unpleasant smells.

Using the Air Recirculation Mode Correctly
Many of us aren't sure when to use the recirculation or fresh air mode. Here's a simple rule:
• Use recirculation mode when driving in areas with poor air quality, such as traffic jams, industrial zones, or near garbage dumps. This prevents polluted air from entering the car.
• Switch to fresh air mode when driving on the highway or in areas with clean air. This helps prevent stale air buildup inside the cabin, which can cause drowsiness and discomfort due to lower oxygen levels.

Where should we aim the air vents for the best cooling or heating?
• In summer, direct the cool air towards our upper body or face. Since cold air naturally sinks, this helps distribute the temperature more evenly.
• In winter, aim the warm air toward our feet. Heat rises, so this method keeps the entire cabin warm and prevents dry air from blowing directly onto our face.
Using the right airflow settings ensures a comfortable ride without causing dryness or uneven temperatures.
Essential Maintenance Tips for Car AC Systems
Like any other car component, our AC system needs regular care to keep running efficiently.
1. Replace the AC Filter Regularly
The AC filter is like a mask for our car—it blocks dust, pollen, and pollutants from entering. If it's clogged, the airflow weakens, reducing cooling and heating efficiency.
• Change the filter every 5,000-10,000 km (3,000-6,000 miles) or as recommended in the owner's manual.
• If we often drive in dusty areas, replace it more frequently.
A clean filter improves air quality and keeps the AC system working smoothly.
2. Check the Refrigerant Level
Refrigerant is the lifeblood of the AC system—it's what makes cooling possible. If the refrigerant level is too low, the AC won't cool properly, and the compressor may wear out faster.
• Have a professional check the refrigerant level at least once a year.
• If cooling performance drops suddenly, it could be due to a leak. Get it inspected and refilled as needed.
Too little refrigerant reduces efficiency, but too much can damage the system. A balanced level ensures optimal performance.
3. Keep the Condenser and Evaporator Clean
Over time, dust and debris can clog the AC's condenser (located near the front grille) and evaporator (inside the dashboard). A dirty system struggles to cool properly.
• Gently rinse the condenser with a low-pressure hose during car washes. Avoid using high-pressure water, as it can bend the delicate fins.
• Use a specialized AC cleaner to remove mold and bacteria from the evaporator, preventing bad odors and maintaining airflow.
Keeping these components clean helps maintain strong cooling power and prevents unpleasant smells.
4. Inspect the AC Compressor and Fan
The compressor is the AC system's heart, and the fan helps distribute the air inside the car. If these parts aren't in good shape, the system won't work efficiently.
• Check the compressor belt every 20,000-30,000 km (12,000-18,000 miles) for wear and tear. A loose or cracked belt can cause the AC to underperform.
• Make sure the fan runs smoothly and isn't making unusual noises. Cleaning the fan blades helps maintain strong airflow.
Regular inspections can prevent unexpected failures and costly repairs.
