Work-Study Balance

Hey Lykkers! 💬 If you've ever juggled a part-time job and college classes at the same time, you know it can feel like a crazy balancing act 🎪 I've been there too—clocking in at work after lectures, doing homework during lunch breaks, and trying not to crash by 10pm 😅
So here's how I actually made it work—without losing my mind.
Why I Took a Part-Time Job?
For me, it wasn't just about money (though let's be real, every bit helps 💸).
I wanted work experience and something productive to fill my schedule.
So I started as a café server near campus. It was flexible, chill, and close enough to run over in between classes.
Pick the Right Job
Not all part-time jobs are created equal. If you're in school, flexibility is gold 🌟
Here's what I looked for:
✅ Flexible shifts (especially weekends)
✅ Close to campus or remote
✅ Something not too mentally draining (so I still had energy to study)
Bonus tip: Campus jobs or freelance gigs like tutoring or design are usually more understanding when it comes to exams and deadlines.
Time Blocking = Lifesaver
This one changed everything: I started using my phone calendar to plan my entire week.
I'd block out classes, work shifts, and even study time.
Seeing my week laid out helped me avoid overbooking and made time for me too.
No more forgetting assignments or skipping meals just to catch up!
Don't Be Afraid to Say "No"
Sometimes, I had to say no to extra work shifts—even when I needed the cash—because exams were coming up.
And guess what? It's okay to protect your energy.
Saying "no" when you're stretched thin isn't selfish. It's smart. 🙌
Use the Gaps Wisely
Those awkward 30- or 60-minute breaks between classes? I used to scroll on my phone.
Now, I use that time to:
📚 Review notes
📧 Answer work emails
🧠 Take power naps
Every small pocket of time adds up when you're balancing a lot.
Rest Is Not a Reward
I used to treat rest like something I had to earn after being productive.
Big mistake.
Now, I schedule rest just like I schedule work or class.
Breaks are what keep me going long-term, and they stop burnout before it starts 💆♀️
Alright Lykkers ✨ Are you working part-time while studying too? Or thinking about it? Let me know how you manage your time—or what's stressing you out. I'd love to chat in the comments or DMs 💬 You've got this, one step at a time 💪💙
